Prayer during the week
Alongside our weekly services, prayer takes place regularly throughout the week at different venues, including on Zoom. Everyone is welcome to attend, either in person or online. Please see our services page for more details.

Pentecost Poetry Project
Rev’d Barnabas is running a Pentecost Poetry Project to encourage broad poetic engagement with the story of Pentecost (which will be celebrated by the church on the 19th May). The narrative can be found in Acts 2 and we are encouraging budding poets to focus on verses 1-5 and 12. Poems will be shared across the Lordsbridge Team in May and available on our website to view.

Lordsbridge Team Pilgrimage – Friday 17th May
On Friday 17th May 2024 the Lordsbridge Pilgrimage will take place as part of the global Thy Kingdom Come initative. Join us for all or part of the walk starting at Coton promptly at 07:30. Please bring your own refreshments and a packed lunch. The walk will end at 18:00 with Evening Prayer at Dry Drayton Church. The full route is approximately 20 miles, but please join us for as much or as little as you would like.

WCCYM Fundraiser
Support the work of WCCYM, who work with young people across the area, by purchasing a Cake Box for Saturday 18th May.
People are being asked to give a donation (suggested amount £7.50, but that is a definite bargain!). It includes a scone, jam and cream, and 3 homemade cakes.
Booking in advance is essential, by Wednesday 15th May at the latest.

Art Exhibition – Coton
Alan Storkey will be holding an exhibtion of more than a hundred of his paintings in centre of Coton from Tuesday 28th May to Sunday 2nd June, with different themes each day. There will be children’s sessions on the Village Green on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 3.00 – 3.30pm.
The programme is as follows:
Tuesday 28th May: Cambridge, Coton and Grantchester landscapes.
Talk: My Personal History of Art, 5.00pm at St Peter’s Church.
Wednesday 29th May: More landscapes, especially Scotland and Cityscapes.
Talk: The Journey through Modernism to the Creator, 5.00pm at St Peter’s Church
Thursday 30th May: My people and Portraits. Old School House and Garden.
Talk: A journey with Michelangelo and Rembrandt plus some portraits, 5.00pm at St Peter’s Church
Friday 31st May: War and Peace Paintings.
Talk: The long artistic witness against War and for Peace, 5.00pm at St Peter’s Church.

Saturday 1st June: The Shared Vision: Rookmaaker and Christian Art.

Celebrating 25 years of LLM Ministry – Ruth Bond
On Sunday 21st April, St Peter’s Barton celebrated 25 years of Ruth Bond’s ministry as a Licensed Lay Minister. Rev’d Claire Robertson thanked Ruth for her wonderful contribution to mission across the Lordsbridge Team, especially her compassionate bereavement ministry. Congratulations Ruth!
Haslingfield Church Building Work Update
Thanks to the generous contributions and legacies from villagers and our congregation, All Saints’ Church has been able to start thefirst phase of high level restoration work in the Nave. Grants towards this work were received from The Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust (£3,000) and The Benefact Trust (£4,000).
The repairs to the stonework and the fresh new decoration of the central Nave is a great improvement and the conservation and painting of the interior arches by Matthew Beesley the Conservator is exceptional.
The historic lead in the high clerestory windows was found to be very fragile putting the medieval glass at risk. The work on the glazing is planned to carry on until the end of April.
Sunday services will continue to be held in the Chancel where there is seating for approximately 40 people.
St Mary’s Hardwick Sponsored 10K
On a sunny Saturday in April, St Mary’s Hardwick supporters set out for a 10K journey from Cambridge to Hardwick. Peter Cornwell reports on the event:
This was the third walk, run, cycle event. Last time we were still raising money for the Cabin. This time it was raising money to pay for the ceiling in church. Unfortunately, bits of plaster kept dropping from above and the building has been closed for six months.
Saturday 13th April saw over forty participants making their way from Great St Mary’s along Burrell’s walk, Adam’s Road, through Coton and up to Hardwick. A distance of just under 10k. Ages ranged from toddlers to over seventies, some at snail pace and some very, very fast. Other members of the congregation acted as stewards, cheering on from various points. It would be a mistake to think that all the participants were members of the congregation. Far from it, we were blessed with lots of support from the village. It was great.
Everyone arrived back at the Cabin garden for Jeff’s sausages, Harry’s live music and a
wonderful spread of cakes. A terrific success! And financially ………..the total raised keeps increasing . At the time of writing the total stood at £4,400 and it’s not too late. Please click on the stewardship link if you can spare a fiver for our ceiling. The work is being done even now and boy, will we have one fantastic celebration when we finally open the doors again!

Our wonderful curate, the Rev’d Barnabas Leeke will be ordained priest on Saturday 29th June, 5.00pm at Ely Cathedral. Everyone is welcome to join the service.
Rev’d Barnabas will be celebrating his first communion at our Team Service on Sunday 30th June, 10.30am at St Mary’s, Comberton.
