Lent Reflections

Below are reflections to make use of during the season of Lent. There is a PDF to download for each week, if you’d like to print the reflections out. Also available is our Pilgrimage at Home. Why not take some time out with God this Lent season?

Week 1

Lent is a penitential season when we present our failings to God, and reflect on the great gift of God’s Son.  Jesus lived, died, and rose again for our sake.
By the grace and love of God we can receive forgiveness when we repent of our sins.  God accepts us as we are – warts and all!  The hymn “Just as I am” sums this up and can be used as a prayer for this season.

Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come.

Jesus is the sacrificial lamb, sacrificing his life on the cross for our salvation.

Week 2

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come.

The challenges of life create fear and doubt in our hearts and minds.  Jesus understands the whole range of human emotions and accepts us as we are.  Trust in God brings us a sense of peace.

Week 3

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come.

The miracles of Jesus teach us about the compassion of God.  Poverty and blindness can be metaphors for our lack of faith, but God’s loving compassion heals us.

Week 4

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come.

Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come.

God, our loving father, accepts us when we turn to him in humility.
We are accepted as children of God.

Week 5

Just as I am, of that free love
The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
O Lamb of God, I come!

It is hard for us to grasp the enormity of God’s love for us.  God gave his only son to die on the cross so that we have the chance of eternal life in the presence of God.
